Why not.

Cave Story ~ Doukutsu Monogatari: Walkthrough

Mimiga Village

Mimiga: Hand over the key!
Child: No! I won't!
Mimiga: Are you trying to protect Sue?
Mimiga: She's a stranger! She's not one of us!
Child: Sue's a good person.
Child: I'd never betray her!
Mimiga: Toroko...
Mimiga: When the Doctor comes, you know he'll take someone away again...
Mimiga: If we don't turn Sue over, it might be you he takes instead.
Toroko: But... but...
Mimiga: The key, Toroko!
A figure falls to the ground, knocking the two Mimigas to the floor.
?!
The child, Toroko, runs away.

You can now talk to the fallen Mimiga to wake him up.

.....
The fallen Mimiga gets up.
Mimiga: What? You're not an enemy?
Mimiga: I thought for sure it was them...
Mimiga: I'm King.
King: I'm the number-one in this village.
King: Not that that means a whole lot, with only six of us left.
King: Well, seven counting Sue.
King: She's not one of us though.
King: She's just an outsider who showed up recently.

He doesn't have anything interesting to say after that, so head left over the miniscule lake and through the door. You can check out the sign to learn that you're entering a Reservoir.

From the door, go to the edge of the water and jump onto the ledge. If you fall into the water, come out on the right edge. Jump another platform and talk to the fishing Mimiga.

Fisherman: Sue?
Fisherman: Yeah, I know her.
Fisherman: That's the cute girl who stays cooped up in Arthur's house all the time, right?
Fisherman: She came here just a little while ago.
Fisherman: I saw her fall into the reservoir.
Fisherman: She doesn't seem to like us much...
Fisherman: I don't know why, since she's a Mimiga just like us.

She fell in, eh? Maybe that sparkling item at the bottom of the water is hers. Jump in and grab it to receive the Silver Locket. Blast the fish and walk out of the reservoir on the other side, where Toroko has reappeared. She'll promptly run out. Leave the reservoir.

King: Give me the key!
Toroko: No!
Toroko runs away, knocking King over.

Walk past King and fall to the floor. Go all the way to the right and you'll see a building in the corner. Enter.

You have now entered the Shack. Walk all the way to the right, but when Toroko shouts, be ready to jump fast, since she'll attack. Jump away and shoot to subdue her. Talk to her.

Toroko: Eeeeeek!
Toroko: Save me, save me!!
Toroko: .....
Toroko: .....Huh?
Toroko: You're... you're not with the Doctor?
Toroko: Oh! I'm sorry.
Toroko: You had me worried.
Toroko: The Doctor's such a mean guy.
Toroko: Popping up in our village and taking us away, sometimes even killing us...
Toroko: Like my brother. He killed my brother.
Toroko: Oh!
Toroko: That pendant!
Toroko: You found it for me?
Toroko: Sue gave that to me!
Toroko: .....
Toroko: Well... I shouldn't have it anymore.
Toroko: King gets his ears all in a tangle when he sees Sue and I getting along...
Toroko: You can have it.
There are three explosions by the door.
Box-Resembling Fellow: Huzzah!
Box-Resembling Fellow: There you are!
Box-Resembling Fellow: You can't hide, no no!
Box-Resembling Fellow: I've got the nose of a bloodhound!
?????: Indeed you do.
A floating goth witch teleports in.
Witch: The nose, and I dare say the brain as well.
Box-Resembling Fellow: Misery!
Box-Resembling Fellow: I found her first!
Toroko: You--you guys're with the Doctor, aren't you!
Misery: .....
Misery: So you're Sue eh? The Doctor has called for you.
Misery: Come along, now.
Toroko: Uh...what?
Toroko: I'm not Sue.
Misery casts a bubble, which traps Toroko.
Toroko: Eyaah!
Misery: Balrog.
Misery: I leave the rest to you.
Misery flies away with Toroko.
Toroko: No, wait, you've got the wrong--!
Balrog: Not AGAIN!
Balrog: I always have to clean up!
Balrog: And here I found her first!
Balrog: .....
Balrog: So what's your deal?
Balrog: You gonna fight me with that thing? [YES/NO]

Pick Yes to fight your first boss battle. Pick No if you're a wimp.

BOSS: Balrog
An easy fight. When he runs at you, jump over his head and mow him down with Polar Star fire from the other side. Repeat until dead (which shouldn't take more than two runs).

That should have been pretty easy, if not, you suck. Leave the Shack. Walk left until you see a kind of sequence of hopping stones up. Hop up to a door with a picture of a disk over it - that's a save room, and it could be considered the crossroads of the Mimiga Village. Go in and save (heal if needed) before we go exploring the rest of the village.

First, walk all right from the save room and drop down the gap, curving the fall so you land on a platform. Jump right and up to a hanging brick, then again to a platform. Raid the treasure chest for a Map System, which will let you use the Map key. Go back to the save room.

Now, jump up to the cage and follow the slope going up and right. There's a sign that says Yamashita Farm. Go on in. Talk to the farmer for a short rant which will make sense later on in the game. Jump into the pond at the far end and grab the Life Capsule. Jump back out and leave the farm, returning to the save room.

Now go all right. There'll be a crazy nerd guy with a dodgy hat guarding the graveyard. Inform him of Toroko's disappearance and he'll run off to tell King. Follow him into the Assembly Hall and investigate. Talk to King.

King: Toroko...
King: I can't believe it...
King: Toroko's elder brother, Arthur, was a fabulous warrior.
King: But he was killed by one of the Doctor's goons.
King: And now, I...I couldn't protect her...

Aww. Now talk to the nerd guy.

Nerd: There are two keys to Arthur's house.
Nerd: Toroko has one of them.
Nerd: The other is hidden in the Mimiga graveyard.

Fascinating. Talk to the fireplace to discover that there's something behind it, which we'll collect later, and then leave. Go back to the place the nerd was guarding and go in to the Graveyard.

This place is surprisingly smaller and less gloomy than you would expect. Head to the right, committing mushroom genocide. There'll be a creepy guy with a knife. You can ignore him, or you can kill him by shooting him from the back. When the bottom floor is clear, look around for a little green guy walking around. Talk to him for a rather strange experience. Now go all right up the slope and jump across. You can't reach the door at the top yet, so don't try. There's a very big mushroom, but it's not particularly fearsome. Jump across again to the grave with the sparkles. Investigate the sparkles to get Arthur's Key. Now return to the save room and save.

Now go down to the bottom of the village, and go left. Enter the house, identified by the sign as being Arthur's House. There's a heart box, a save point, some beds, and some whizzy technical-looking stuff. Save if you like. Investigate the weird thing on the left: it's a teleporter. There's nowhere to go, though. If you talk to the computer, however, you'll be able to open a passage to the Egg Corridor (and you should remember the cryptic snippet of text). Now hit the teleporter to the Egg Corridor.
