Cave Story ~ Doukutsu Monogatari: Walkthrough

Plantation

Finally, a zone worthy of exploration. If you drop down the bridge by the door, you'll find a fishing area complete with gunfish and irritating flies. The main level has a few basic monsters and Mimigas, and a rest place (which has no available beds). The ogres are responsive monsters, and are great if you want to practice those m4d gunslinger skillz of yours. At the left end, you can go up to the top area. The top-left corner has a swarm of insects, and more importantly a life capsule. At the very top, accessible only to machine gunners and Booster 2.0 people, are an array of instant deathtraps that you don't need to worry about right now. Jails are dotted around, too - the Mimiga jail on the far left on the top level has a teleporter to the Grasstown shelter Kazuma was trapped in, though the computer will say that the destination is unknown.

Firstly, grab the Life Capsule at the top-left.

Secondly, find the Rest Area on the main level. There's an annoying green thing guarding it. Talk to the fisherman.

Now go to the fishing area. Hard players drop down to the bomb-shelter-esque thing on the right to meet Cthulhu and Curly. She has amnesia, but Cthulhu says that there's a strange mushroom that cures amnesia. Make sure you see Cthulhu say this, because otherwise you can't get the mushroom later.

At the fishing area, go left, nuking insects and fish on the way. The fish are worth a king's ransom in experience. At the end, talk to the fisherman. Raid the bucket to get a key. Fly over the long space of water on your left to a door, which conveniently uses your new key.

Go in and teleport to Arthur's House... or not. Someone will yell at you, presumably while you're in a coma, and you'll wake up in jail. Hey, it's the fat guy from the Mimiga village. Talk to him a bit. Go to your inventory and read the letter.

This is Sue.
I don't believe I ever told you much about all of us.
We came to this island from the surface on a research trip.
Prof. Booster was on our helicopter, and so was my mother, my brother, various assistants...
The Doctor as well.
He was there to serve our medical needs, and did so...
At least, until he found the Demon Crown...
That crown, once the property of the master of this island, grants monstrous magical powers upon its wearer...
The Doctor knew this even before coming to the island, which is why he wormed his way into our group in the first place.
Once he had the Crown in his possession, no one could stand up to him.
We had no choice except to continue our research of the island under his orders.
The Doctor seeks to rule the Earth's surface using this island as a base.
I think he plans to first attack the surface using the Mimigas as weapons.
Anyway, I was able to get away somehow, but I fear the other researchers are already...
Now, he's using the unsuspecting Mimigas to cultivate more and more red flowers.
Once he is ready to attack, he will drive the Mimigas into a murderous frenzy using the flowers.
Using his terrible powers, he will be able to control the raging Mimigas to do his bidding.
And that means, I, too, will...
If you can escape from this prison cell, look for the hideout hidden in the plantation.
If my mother is yet safe, she'll be there, coming up with a counterplan.
Please. Help my mother.
The password is "Litagano Motscoud".

The letter ends.

Go around and exit the jail by the top door. If there's no opening, talk to the fat guy again. Interested Booster 0.8-ers can now access the deathtraps, but they don't take damage, so don't bother attacking them. Before we go talk to Sue's mom, return to the teleporter in the fishing area. This time the guard is gone, so let's go to Arthur's House.

Go to the Graveyard - that's right of the save room, in case you forgot. Kill everything on the ground floor - the knife-wielding toad can be killed from the back. There'll be a little guy (wearing green to blend in) on the floor. Talk to him and pick him up. Hard routers should investigate the now-accessible door at the top and talk to the mushroom inside to get the Ma Pignon after a boss fight. When you're done, go back to Arthur's House and teleport to the Plantation.

Hard routers, visit Curly and Cthulhu and feed Curly the Ma Pignon. She'll get her memory back.

Go to Itoh's place (the scared engineer) to save. Now go outside and drop down the Outer Wall. Go back to the Little house. Mr. Little will now offer to trade you a "fabulous gun" for your Blade. This is the Nemesis, which is a very specialist weapon that gets weaker as it levels. At Level 1, it is a very powerful weapon. Check out the Weapon Guide for more details. It's your call; the Nemesis can't match up to the power of a fully levelled Blade, but since it's very easy to delevel the Blade in the boss fights where it will most be needed, the Nemesis is a worthy option. Hard players especially might want to consider the Nemesis, as it is very useful in some levels to come, including the secret level which is the whole point of taking the hard route. After some deliberation, go back up the Outer Wall to the Plantation again. Go to the main level, where the bridge and the plantation meet, to see a hidden door. A quick check of your map will reveal a secret passage to it, so go around into the Hideout. Talk to the woman.

?????: So you are the savior Sue spoke of.
?????: Oh, thank goodness...
?????: I'm Momorin Sakamoto.
?????: Sue's mother.
Note: Momorin will be called "Sue's Mom" because it's easier for me to remember.
Sue's Mom: I used to take my chances working at the Doctor's side.
Sue's Mom: But once he found the seeds, he had no more use for me.
Sue's Mom: So he had me tossed off the edge of the island.
Sue's Mom: Chivalry is dead, let me tell you.
Sue's Mom: But that's neither here nor there.
Sue's Mom: Right now I'm working on building a rocket, one that will get you to the Doctor's throne.
Sue's Mom: I don't quite have all the parts yet, though.
Sue's Mom: .....
Sue's Mom: Aha.
Sue's Mom: I just need to borrow this.
Takes your Booster, whichever version you have of it.
Sue's Mom: I still need more parts to finish the rocket.
Sue's Mom: Are you busy right now? [YES/NO]
Pick No.
Sue's Mom: Ah, good answer.
Sue's Mom: Our savior indeed.
Sue's Mom: Here, put this on for now.
You receive the Mimiga Mask.
Sue's Mom: Charming, quite charming.
Sue's Mom: Perhaps it's a bit big, but...
Sue's Mom: The Mimigas working the fields aren't allowed to speak with humans.
Sue's Mom: But with that mask on, you should be able to talk to them.
Sue's Mom: Are you with me so far?
Sue's Mom: To complete the rocket, I'll need plenty of electrical power.
Sue's Mom: If you could get ahold of one of those sprinklers they use out there, I think I might be able to work with that.
Sue's Mom: Please bring me back a Sprinkler.

Go back to the main level and all left. Talk to the Mimiga at the top. Grab the sprinkler and go to the Rest Area. Talk to the guy by the sprinklers to get a working one and to learn a very ominous fact - the last seed is done. Go back and give the sprinkler to Sakamoto. Now you have to visit Itoh, the timid guy from the Storehouse on the Outer Wall. Go talk to him to get a Controller. Come back and give it to Sue's Mom.

Sleep. Easy players, take solace in that you're nearly there. Hard players, you have a lot more ahead of you.

Go back out. If you feel so inclined, you don't have to talk to the scientists, meaning you can complete the game with the Mimiga mask on. Talk to them to get your Booster back (hard moders need their Booster back, or will be forced into easy mode). Use the rocket - on your way up, jump off to talk to the dog to get a Life Capsule (and, if you used it before now, another Life Pot). Now use the rocket all the way to the top. There's a savepoint. You'll have to re-equip your Booster on the inventory screen. Go through the cave.
