Cave Story ~ Doukutsu Monogatari: Walkthrough
Endgame Nostalgia
The Mimiga Village is empty. Presumably the Doctor has captured everyone.
Hard routers go straight to Arthur's house to the teleporter. Booster is still
alive... must have something to do with that teleporter at the bottom of the
Labyrinth with the broken power source that a skillful engineer could fix.
Booster appears in the teleporter and walks over to you.
Booster: .....
Booster: Only you, I see...
Booster: ...The Doctor has acquired the red flowers.
Booster: The island's Mimigas have all fallen into his hands.
Booster: So the tragedy has become inevitable.
Booster: I should have allowed at least Sue to escape when I had the chance.
Booster gives you the Booster v2.0
Booster: Please heed my last request.
Booster: If you see Sue again, I want you to take her and flee this island.
Booster: That girl is Sakamoto's daughter, and she never wanted to come here in the first place.
Booster: But we couldn't leave the child all alone, so she had no choice but to come along with us.
Booster: I beg you.
Booster: Take that girl with you and flee.
Skip this next part if you don't have the Polar Star.
Now that both easy and hard routers have a means of aerial transport, go to the
top of the Mimiga Village to a door in an alcove. Machine gunners have an easy
ride here. Booster 0.8'ers should take a running jump off the platform with the
cage on it and boost up onto a set of two hanging blocks, before following the
chain up. Booster 2.0'ers won't have much trouble, since the Booster 2.0 has
a better range than the Booster 0.8. Hey, it's the First Cave again! Follow
round to the Hermit Gunsmith and talk to him.
Gunsmith: You haven't seen the gun I made, have you?
Gunsmith: Someone went and stole it while I was sleeping!
Gunsmith: Drat, this is why I should've been keeping it in my pocket when I napped...
The Gunsmith sees you with the Polar Star and you jump back.
Gunsmith: HEY!!
Gunsmith: Isn't THAT my gun?!
Gunsmith: What are YOU doing with it?! I didn't make it for you!
Gunsmith: Give that back!
The Gunsmith takes your Polar Star.
Gunsmith: Pah!
Gunsmith: I see you've certainly been giving my gun a workout.
Gunsmith: .....
Gunsmith: You know, I've long believed that one's weapons should be crafted by oneself.
Gunsmith: That one who fights with another's weapons and considers that force his own is witless.
Gunsmith: That one who blames his tools for which that his own power cannot achieve is a fool.
Gunsmith: However...
Gunsmith: When I see this gun before me that you have used so exhaustively, it moves this man to tears.
Gunsmith: To think such thorough use were possible even before the gun's completion...
Gunsmith: Hahhh...
Gunsmith: I apologize for my grumbling.
Gunsmith: You can keep this gun.
The screen fades out.
Gunsmith: After I finish it, of course.
A long pause, and the screen fades back in. There is a flash of light, and
the Polar Star becomes the Spur.
Talk to him again to get some inspirational text.
Gunsmith: In this world, there exists a balance between those who are creators and those who are users.
Gunsmith: I knew that, of course, but it took your help for me to experience this firsthand.
Gunsmith: From now on, I vow to dedicate myself to the side of creation.
Gunsmith: The labor involved becomes joy when I know there are those who will enjoy my work to the utmost.
Now leave the Hermit Gunsmith to find that the First Cave has completely
changed - there are a great deal more monsters now. Play with holding down
the fire button to charge up the levels and shoot lasers. See the Weapon Guide
for more information. Play with the laser power as you leave the First Cave.
The essentially levelless aspect can be very useful.
People who swapped the Polar Star earlier, come back now.
Hard routers with the Spur should teleport to the Labyrinth to get the Whimsical
Star from the shopkeeper. Three stars rotate around you when it's equipped, and
damage anything that touches them. It's not too effective, but it's something.
To activate, charge the Spur up to max. Every time you get hit, one of the
stars will disappear until you reactivate it. Also, now that you have aerial
transport, get the Arms Barrier (see the Labyrinth section) if you haven't
already. This was a short section, but its a good transitional stage.
